Millburn BOE Meeting Monday, July 19, 7 pm at the Education Center. The Board meeting will not be livestreamed.  It will be recorded, and will be posted later on the school district website and on the township public access channel.

 

 

On Thursday, June 24, at its annual Board of Education Retreat Meeting, the Board heard from members of the public interested in filling the open term left by the departure of Caroline Updyke from the Board.  Statements were presented by community members, Krystle Adams, Jenessa Dieterle, Asaf Farshuddin, Peter Grigoryev, Brian Lawrence, Devang Nagrecha, Neetu Salhotra, and Jing Wen.

 

The Board unanimously approved the nomination of Ms. Salhotra. The Board thanked all the candidates for their interest, and encouraged them to continue volunteering in our schools and to run for a 3-year seat on the Board of Education in November.

 

Ms. Salhotra will take the oath of office at the July 19th Millburn Board of Education meeting. This meeting will be held at the Education Center, 434 Millburn Avenue, Millburn NJ at 7:00 pm and is open to the public.  This is the first meeting to be held in person at the Board building since March 2020.  The Board meeting will not be livestreamed.  It will be recorded, and will be posted later on the school district website and on the township public access channel.

 

School Board Candidate Deadline July 26, 2021

 

All individuals interested in running for the Millburn Township Board of Education must declare their candidacy by 4 p.m. on Monday, July 26, 2021. The Millburn Board of Education consists of nine members who each serve a three-year term. Candidates will be running for three seats currently held by Oyin Owolabi, Danielle Prieto and Neetu Salhotra. The Board is non-partisan. Candidates during the general election is November 2, 2021.

 

Candidates must file a nominating petition with the Essex County Clerk with at least ten signatures, one of which must be the candidate’s own signature. 

 

The New Jersey School Boards Association provides a Candidate Kit on their website at www.njsba.org, including the nominating petition, as well as online briefings addressing leadership, legal issues, and the role of a board member. The page also includes information about the New Jersey School Ethics Act and important dates in the school election process.
